2025 MEDALLION SEW ALONG

Invitation to join the SA Quilters 2025 Medallion Sew Along….
Firstly, thank you to all those who joined in the 40th Birthday Sew Along last year. It was lovely to see all the progress shared on the Facebook page and I hope to see many of your quilts entered into Festival of Quilts this year. It will be a treat to see them all hanging together.
Some interesting 2024 Sew Along Facebook statistics:
- 277 members
- 272 from Australia; 3 from United States; 1 from Israel; 1 from New Zealand
- 156 posts
- 4,258 reactions (likes, loves etc)
This year, just for something different, I decided it would be a medallion quilt and would incorporate some appliqué as well as piecing. I need to keep you all on your toes now you love making half square triangles. The blocks are a mixture of 4” and 6” pieced and appliqué blocks and 8” appliqué blocks with 2” borders in between and a 16” appliqué centre block.
Again, this year three amazing friends have taken on the job of pattern testers and sample makers. My choice is raw edge machine appliqué. Kathleen Rossini chose the turned edge machine appliqué method; Chris O’Brien chose hand needle turn and Sue Knuckey raw edge machine quilted appliqué. You will choose how you wish to do the appliqué. I can’t help myself so this year my palette was bright again, this time Me and My Sister Designs. A huge thank you to Chris O’Brien for quilting it for me, it is beautiful. The other girls all quilted their own quilts.
It’s not a mystery quilt, just a sew-along, and is open to anyone who wants to join in the fun.
During 2025, starting now in May, instructions will be on the SA Quilters website with a link to download the files plus it will be published each month in I-Patch and on Facebook. The last month, December, will be putting the quilt together.
The communications team has retained the 2024 Facebook Sew Along page so that previous posts and files are not lost and changed the name to “SAQ 2025 Medallion Sew Along”. This will allow you to look back at the quilts made in 2024 and to post your progress in 2025.
Good luck, I hope you enjoy our 2025 Sew Along and I look forward to you sharing on Facebook
Cheers
Heather
