The Great South Australian Quilting Bee, a new and exciting quilting competition, will be held at Festival of Quilts during the Sewing, Stitching and Handcraft Show – July 14, 15, & 16, 2017.

Individual amateur quilters - as defined in the Festival of Quilts Status criteria in the Festival of Quilts Handbook available online, are encouraged to enter The Great South Australian Quilting Bee.

Amateur contestants will be required to cut and piece blocks during two rounds. The third round will be an appliqué block. There will be eliminations after each round.

The semi-finalists will return on Sunday and compete for the grand prize by connecting finished blocks, selecting backing, wadding, then quilting and binding the final small top.

Members of the Judging Panel will select the top blocks after each round as well as the final quilts using standard judging guidelines, looking for the “wow factor”, technical skills, design choices both in fabric selection and quilting motif, and binding quality.
Judges decisions are final.

Contestants must be willing to return for the final on Sunday, July 16th if they progress in their block challenges; free entry to the show will be provided.

All blocks will remain the property of QGSA Inc. and cannot be taken home. All supplies will be provided on competition day but contestants may bring some personal supplies. Full contest rules are available below.

Two preliminary rounds will be held – one on Friday, July 14th and the next on Saturday, July 15th. Final will be held on Sunday, July 16th.

Contestants will be selected in order of their “show of interest” date at the time entries are received by the committee. There is a $15 entry fee to be paid by the contestant once chosen to participate. This fee includes your entry to the Sewing, Stitching and Hand Craft Show on your participation dates.

The contest is limited to a total of 20 participants – 10 per preliminary round on either Friday 14th or Saturday 15th.  So make sure to enter early. Selected contestants will be notified by phone by June 30th.

Entries can be given to any Exhibition Committee Member or email a copy of the completed entry form to Anne Marie Serrano, Convenor at foqconvenor@gmail.com
