Lessa Siegele Scholarship

Announced at Quilt Encounter 2012, the incoming QE Committee established the Lessa Siegele Scholarship. The recipient of this Scholarship will receive a package for 3 days at Quilt Encounter plus $100.00 spending money to assist with the purchase of their class requirements.

Named the Lessa Siegele Scholarship to honour and acknowledge the enormous contribution Lessa made in establishing and convening this wonderful event for 20 years from 1992 to 2012. Lessa continues to contribute to the success of QE, supporting the current committee with her vast knowledge & experience.

The Inaugural scholarship was presented for QE 2013 to Margaret Sampson.

The 2014 recipient chose to remain anonymous.

The 2015 recipient was Rita Blake of Paringa.

2016 Lorraine Stocker of Hallett, was nominated by Sharon Porter of Jamestown. Lorraine is known for her charity quilt work & event organisation putting in a lot of time for others.

2017 Rebecca Tuckwell from Peterborough. Rebecca did lots of work for the 2016 Regional Roundup, as well as lots of other Community Volunteer hours.

The recipient of this award will be a quilter, who due to special circumstances would not normally be able to participate in this event. Maybe someone who has done lots of volunteer time in their community, maybe a carer for an elderly relative or someone with a disability. Perhaps a person who has experienced some tough medical issues - many of us may know someone who would be deserving of this award. The recipient of this Scholarship may choose to remain anonymous and if so, that decision will be honoured by the QE and QGSA Executive Committees.

Nomination forms may be printed (below) or available via post by contacting

Kerryn Brand, PO Box 193 Victor Harbor 5211, (08) 8552 8819

Nomination can be made by a third party or by the applicant. The recipient will be included on the mailing list to receive the brochure in February, therefore, nominations will need to be received by the 31st January each year.

With the support of the QGSA Executive we are pleased to be able to establish this Scholarship as a tribute to Lessa, and provide the means for a fellow quilter to join us at this fabulous annual event.
